The W.F. West and Centralia girls tennis teams were able to get their match in on Wednesday in Centralia, and the Bearcats top teams led them to a 4-2 victory.
“It was a breath of fresh air to actually play a tennis match this week,” W.F. West coach Megan Wellander said. “It feels like we’ve just been swimming … It’s also hard to play Centralia, but it’s always fun to play Centralia too.”
Emery Dalrymple and Emma Hamilton earned wins in the No. 1 and 2 singles spot, winning their respective matches 7-5, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4.
Wellander commended both of them for their performances after the match, saying that either could be W.F. West’s No. 1 on any given day.
“I have a unique challenge with my one and two singles,” Wellander said. “They go back and forth. It’s highly competitive tennis. It makes things harder to make my lineup, which is awesome.”
Wellander said the same reigns true for her top two doubles teams.
Both duos, Manta Ceesay/Ellie Mittge and Katelyn Wood/Isabella Paniagua, cruised, winning 6-1, 6-0.
There was a bit of a reshuffle in the top two spots, as Wellander said they were missing one of their regulars, but she’ll be back for the Bearcats’ next match.
“The doubles were super strong, super aggressive,” Wellander said. “(Ceesay and Mittge) getting more aggressive as they continue to play together, and that’s always good.”
The Tigers were able to take both of the No.3 matches. Eliyah Rooklidge won her singles match 6-4, 6-4, and Suki Bringman and Neela Haywood won their doubles match 6-2, 6-3.
It’ll be a quick turnaround for both teams, as they’ll both be back on the court on Thursday. W.F. West will return home to host Aberdeen, and Centralia will head to Shelton.
