Tough Sixth Inning Dooms Loggers Against Grizzlies

A tough day at the plate, and an error-ridden sixth inning ultimately cost the Onalaska softball team Friday afternoon against Hoquiam in a 12-2 non-league loss at home.

The Loggers collected six hits as a team, but couldn’t capitalize with runners on base and managed just two runs, and committed five costly errors in the sixth inning, giving the Grizzlies eight runs to blow it open late.

“We just did not hit the ball,” coach Rich Teitzel said. “We’re a way better hitting club than we were today.”

Teitzel said that Grizzly shortstop Gracie Bonney Sprodlin made incredible plays from shortstop to keep the Loggers at bay, and pitcher Karron Blood pitched all seven innings, allowing just the two runs.

Alex Cleveland-Barrera led the Loggers at the plate with an RBI double, while Dylan Zigler pitched six innings to lead the Logger attack in the circle.

They’ll look to rebound against these same Grizzlies in Hoquiam on Monday.
