Travelers Who Use I-5 in Lewis County Can Provide Input to WSDOT in Online Open House

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) invites people who use Interstate 5 in Lewis County, the Harrison Avenue interchange in Centralia and the Grand Mound interchange in South Thurston County to provide feedback on the interstate’s future via an online open house.

The open house opened Friday, March 17, and closes Friday, March 31.

“North Lewis County is a major transportation hub that connects the robust Western Washington economy between Vancouver and Olympia,” WSDOT stated in a news release. “With anticipated future growth in this area, WSDOT is studying the corridor to reduce congestion and identify safety and mobility improvements that will mutually benefit local communities and businesses.”

Recent growth in the area has increased congestion during weekday peak commute times, “causing significant backups and delays as well as conflicts between travelers sharing the road with freight truck traffic,” according to the release.

The study, which is funded by $1 million allocated within the state Connecting Washington transportation package, will also focus on addressing gaps in transportation for pedestrians, access to public transit, vehicle pain points and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.
