Trojans Fall to Comets

The Pe Ell girls basketball team couldn’t get much going offensively on the road Monday, falling to Naselle 58-32 in 1B Columbia Valley League action.

“Their defense took us out of everything we wanted to do,” Pe Ell coach Dave Tuengel said. “Kudos to Naselle, they forced us to take tough shots and we didn’t convert.”

Pe Ell didn’t get to 10 points in a quarter until the fourth, when it hit 10 exactly. Naselle got its lead to 10 points by the end of the first quarter, and despite a low-scoring second, was up by 20 by the time the final period rolled around.

Charlie Carper had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans. Devon Shannon and Brookelynn King both scored six points, with the former bringing down 10 boards of her own.

The result keeps high stakes in Pe Ell’s regular season finale, at home Thursday against Columbia Adventist. The Trojans currently sit a game ahead of Three Rivers Christian for the 1B CVL’s final district spot, and can clinch it with a win over the Kodiaks — who they beat by one point on Jan. 10.
