The Pe Ell boys basketball team shut down Oakville late on Tuesday night, allowing just nine points in the second half to come back for a 35-31 victory.
Oakville scored 22 points in the first half and took a five-point lead into the break, and they led by the same margin after both defenses dominated the third.
Pe Ell took over in the third, outscoring Oakville 14-5 in the final frame to come away with a win.
“We knew it was going to be a tough matchup,” Pe Ell coach Ross Hojem said. “We made adjustments at halftime, tightened up our defense, and figured out a way to get some better looks.”
Jakob Hayes led the Trojans with 15 points, and Wyatt Harris scored 10. Liam McGrath scored seven, Silas Edgar scored two, and Blake Nelson sealed the game late with a free throw for his only point of the game.
Daniel Rodas led the Acorns with 10 points, while Jordan Eichelberger and Lewis Koser both scored seven. Gio Rodas added four points, and James Shields scored three.
Oakville (4-4, 0-3 1B CVL) will go to Taholah on Wednesday, while Pe Ell (6-4, 3-0 1B CVL) will head to Cathlamet to take on Wahkiakum on Thursday.
