Tumwater Stays Perfect With Opening Win at Lynden Christmas Classic

It hasn’t mattered yet which team the Tumwater girls basketball team has played, even with cancellations and day-of opponent changes, the Thunderbirds just keep winning.

Originally slated to take on 4A Mount Tahoma Tuesday as part of the Lynden Christmas Classic, hosted by Lynden Christian, Tahoma was forced to bow out, and Nooksack Valley replaced them Tuesday afternoon in a last second change.

It didn’t stop the T-Birds (7-0), who got out to a lead and held off a late charge from the 1A Pioneers in a 76-61 win.

Natalie Sumrok starred for the Thunderbirds, scoring 27 points, with 17 of those coming in the opening half. Aubrey Amendala and Kylie Waltermeyer were also in double figures with 14 and 17 points, respectively.

Tumwater will get another chance to flex its perfect resume against 1A contender and host, Lynden Christian Wednesday, before a scheduled game with 4A Mt. Si on Thursday.
