The Tumwater girls golf team won its penultimate regular season match on Tuesday, defeating Centralia 85-73.
Lily Wagner led the T-Birds with 26 points, while Jenna Kalar added 22. Lucy Ramos scored 15, Tayauna Yeates tallied 12, and Paige Dorcy rounded out the Tumwater scorecard with 10.
Lily Ferch led the Tigers with 19 points, while Tess McMurry and Corin Meek weren’t far behind with 18 and 16, respectively. Sydney Stiger logged 11, and Melissa Baine scored nine.
Centralia coach Hal Gronseth is pleased with the improvement he’s seen over the season, but feels a couple rough holes is keeping them from reaching their peak.
“We’re not playing our best, but we’ve done this pretty consistently,” Gronseth said. “We hope we can turn those couple holes each round into average holes instead of bad holes to improve our scores.”
Tumwater and Centralia will finish their regular seasons later this week. The T-Birds will head to Highland to face Aberdeen on Wednesday, while the Tigers will face W.F. West at Riverside on Thursday.
After that, they’ll begin preparing for the EvCo League Tournament at Tumwater Valley next Tuesday, May 6.
“It’s a fun time of year right now,” Gronseth said. “We hope we can improve our scores a few strokes each and be competitive.”
