Twin Cities Lacrosse Caps Off Successful Inaugural Season

The season didn’t end the way the kids had hoped for, but advancing to the South Sound Youth Lacrosse League playoffs crowned an impressive run for Lewis County’s first-ever youth lacrosse team.

Twin Cities Lacrosse, formed in late 2020 by Brad Coulter, Anthony Smith, Ryan Brumbaugh and Riley Wood, is made up of third and fourth graders.

The team’s first clinic was in November 2020 and many of the players had never picked up a lacrosse stick before. They ended up rolling through league play, finishing with the third-best regular-season record (6-1) in the 17-team league made up of squads from Gig Harbor to Olympia.

“(We) competed against programs with years of experience and achieved success beyond most of the 17 clubs in the league,” Coulter said.

The club took an opening-round loss to the Blackhawks in postseason play on Saturday, June 19, which set up a consolation bracket matchup that they also lost to end their season. The team finished with a 6-3 overall record.

Twin Cities is poised to be even better next season and compete for the championship with losing just two fourth graders from this year’s team and bringing back a large group of talented third graders for next season.

“The improvement in skills from day one to the end of the year is night and day,” Coulter said. “Every single kid improved dramatically.”

Twin Cities Lacrosse, which plays its home games at Tiger Stadium, will be back in action at the start of next season, which will be mid-to-late March 2022. Coulter hopes the program keeps growing and improving, and said the support from the community helped tremendously.

“We’d like to thank the Twin Cities Sports Commission, the NW Sports Hub, the Centralia School District, the volunteer coaches and the parents who took a chance on a new sport for the area,” Coulter said.
