Twin Transit has received nearly $200,000 from the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Planning Organization to improve sidewalks near the Boys & Girls Club and Chehalis Middle School.

On Tuesday, Twin Transit announced it received a $194,000 grant to design and construct 610 feet of curb, gutter and sidewalk to connect Southwest 20th Street and Southwest 21st Street. The improvements also include additional signage and improved lighting.

The money will fund Americans with Disabilities Act compliant walkways and crosswalks.

“This award signifies a pivotal move for the community. The Boys & Girls Club has a strong commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive space for our youth. With this grant, we’re not only building sidewalks; we’re constructing pathways to opportunity, growth and a better future for every child in Lewis County,” Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Sarah Althauser said in a news release. “We are thankful for the support and assistance from Twin Transit in the application for and successful award of this federal grant for these pedestrian improvements. With partnerships like Twin Transit and the City of Chehalis, we will continue to grow better together.”

The Lewis County Boys & Girls Club is accessed by more than 140 children and teenagers.
