Two Injured in Interstate 5 Crash Caused by Detached Vehicle Wheel

The state patrol is investigating a crash that injured two people Thursday afternoon on Interstate 5 south of Chehalis.

The crash was reported at 4:37 p.m. Thursday at milepost 75 of I-5.

According to the state patrol, a silver 1995 Ford Escort was traveling southbound and a blue 2003 Kia Sorento was traveling northbound on the freeway.

The Ford lost its left front wheel, which bounced over the median and struck the windshield of the Kia.

The Ford then lost control and left the road.

The driver of the Ford, identified by the state patrol as Joseph A. Miranda, 26, of Lacey, was not injured. The driver of the Kia, identified as Valdemar Sebastian, 51, of Centralia, was seriously injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A passenger in the Kia, identified as Analorena Jimenez Morales, 46, of Centralia, was injured and transported to Providence Centralia Hospital.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. No charges are pending and drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor.
