A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Tuesday, June 8, for the United Learning Center (ULC) building, according to the United Way of Lewis County. The building is due to be constructed on the corner of West Maple and North Pearl streets in Centralia.

The event will be held at noon at 415 North Pearl St. According to an image posted on the United Way’s Facebook page, project partners for the ULC include the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis County, Discover! Children’s Museum and the city of Centralia.

The ULC building, when finished, is expected to be 45,000 square feet in size and be a multi-story building that houses classrooms, a gym and a playground, and has a capacity for 150 to 200 children, according to a previous report from The Chronicle.

United Way has voiced plans to construct the ULC in multiple phases, with the first phase of construction expected to take about a year to complete.

Construction of the center’s Early Learning Center building, a multi-use activities facility and the first phase of the children’s museum building, was originally scheduled to begin construction April 30 but was delayed.
