United Way of Lewis County again in need of executive director

The United Way of Lewis County is again on the hunt for an executive director, less than three weeks after announcing the hiring of a longtime volunteer for the role.

In a vote Thursday, the organization’s board of directors opted to “go in a different direction” from Chastity Pennington, who took the helm on Nov. 20. According to board member Dianne Dorey, the decision centered around a 90-day “management plan” for the position, which included general goals and timeframes for the organization.

“The plan didn’t come together the way the board thought,” Dorey said Friday. “We chose to go in a different direction.”

Pennington replaced Christian Bruhn, who resigned earlier this year after two years at the helm of the nonprofit. Bruhn was hired following the retirement of Debbie Campbell, who served in the role for 22 years.

Dorey said the organization would likely look for an interim director while it begins the search for a permanent hire.
