'Unvaccinated’ Marjorie Taylor Greene Fined $48,000 for Going Maskless in the Capitol

She’s going to need a little more green.

House Sergeant-at-Arms William Walker has leveled $48,000 in fines against U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia for refusing to wear a mask in the House chamber. In a letter obtained by The Hill, Walker notes 20 times in the past six months in which the performative representative flouted the House mandate.

“I will continue my stand on the House floor against authoritarian Democrat mandates, because I don’t want the American people to stand alone,” Greene reportedly said in a statement.

Greene convincingly won the 14th Congressional District in Georgia last November with fewer than 230,000 votes. The conspiracy-theory-pushing Republican was stripped of her committee assignments in February due to “appalling” conduct. Among her more absurd claims is that space lasers may be responsible for wildfires.

The House mask mandate was imposed in July 2020. Significant fines were enacted following the Jan. 6 insurrection when GOP members of Congress refused to mask up while hiding alongside Democrats in the U.S. Capitol as activists loyal to Donald Trump tried to stop the certification of the 2020 election.

Greene, who boasts she is not vaccinated, lashed out on Twitter following a report of her being fined.

“Democrat members don’t wear masks in the members gym when they work out. None of us do & no one should,” she claimed. “Why do I get fined for not wearing a mask when I’m sitting in a chair on the House floor the same as people eating unmasked at a restaurant?”

CNN reports that 100% of Democratic members of Congress are vaccinated. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the mask mandate will remain in place until all of Congress has gotten vaccinations.

Greene explained on former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon’s Tuesday podcast her reason for not getting a COVID inoculation.

“You want to know something, Steve?” she said. “I’m not vaccinated and I’m not getting the vaccine because I’m an American. I can choose what I want to do with my body.”

Greene has at times worn masks on the House floor. Some of them have expressed her ongoing support for Trump. Another — which she sported while speaking in the U.S. Capitol and on national television — were embroidered with the word “Censored.”
