An Olympia man has been charged for allegedly stabbing a 33-year-old Tenino man in the chest Saturday evening.

A Tenino Police officer responded to the scene in the 1300 block of Sussex Avenue East at 4:51 p.m. and began offering first aid to the victim, who was transported by South Thurston County Fire to St. Peter Hospital with a stab wound to the chest. He reportedly underwent surgery and was released from the hospital that same night.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, said Tenino Interim Police Chief John Hutchings, but the altercation reportedly began when the subject kicked the victim’s dog.

Officers quickly located the suspect, Cody A. Galaviz, 23, of Olympia, and he was booked into the Lewis County Jail on one count of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

He is scheduled for a preliminary appearance in Thurston County Superior Court at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 27.
