Vader City Council discusses vacancies, upcoming July 4 fireworks and car shows

The Vader City Council convened for its first regular meeting of the month on Wednesday, June 4, and discussed several different agenda items.

The first was a vacant Vader Planning Committee position, along with a newly vacated city council position following a resignation.

“Mr. (Randy) Hall did resign from his position. His position was up for reelection this year, but he just couldn’t finish off the rest of the year. Mr. Hall did resign as of this morning,” Vader Mayor Joe Schey said.

According to the Lewis County elections filing website, Hall had not filed to run again, but two other candidates — Nicole Hansen and T.L. Nicole Emanuel — had filed for the position.

Now, both have the opportunity to be appointed to the position, as the City of Vader has 90 days to appoint a new councilor, according to state law. Though, if appointed, they will still have to run for election this November.

Hansen had also applied for the vacant planning committee position. During Wednesday’s meeting, the council chose to wait another 30 days to see if any other candidates wanted to apply to be on the planning committee as the vacancy had just been announced.

Should Hansen be appointed to the planning committee, she will have to resign if she ends up on the city council.

Any applicants interested in either the city council position or planning committee position can visit Vader City Hall, located at 317 Eighth St. in Vader, to apply.

Also discussed at the meeting was Vader’s upcoming July 4 fireworks show, which this year will be accompanied by the return of a car show during the day.

Officially known as the Hell on Wheels Vader Independence Day Car Show, cars participating in the show will be parked on A Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4. Registration is available online and costs $25 per vehicle.

Additionally, BMX bicycle owners are invited to bring their vintage pedaled rides to the show for free. Live music and food vendors will be available, as well.

Following the car show, the fireworks show will begin at dusk.
