Paige Houghtelling smacked eight kills, Payton Torrey added seven and top-seeded Mossyrock swept past Oakville (25-25, 25-5, 25-5) in the opening round of the 1B District 4 playoffs Tuesday at home.

Oakville, the 1B Coastal League’s No 4 seed, was eliminated in the loss, and two seniors played their final games in Acorn volleyball jerseys: McKayla Roberts and Marissa Kohl.

Mossyrock, the 1B Columbia Valley League’s No. 1 seed, has now won 14-straight matches dating back to Aug. 23. Their only loss of the season came to Central 2B League’s No. 3 seed Toutle Lake on Aug. 22.

On Tuesday, the Vikings used excellent serving and an absurd 32 aces to put the Acorns away. Torrey, Jolee Hadaller, Gwynn Armstrong, Hailey Brooks, Autumn Imes and Chesney Schultz all served 100%.

Hadaller and Brooks each hammered a match-high nine aces, Armstrong had five and Torrey finished with four. Brooks and Schultz each had three kills and Caelyn Marshall dished out a team-high eight assists, while Cournyer had seven assists.

Mossyrock improves to 16-1 overall and will now face a 10-4 Willapa Valley team it swept twice in the regular season. The winner earns an automatic bid into the state tournament and advances to the district championship match. The loser plays the loser of Naselle and Pe Ell in the third/fourth-place match for the third and final state berth.
