Vikings Down Mules in Cathlamet

The Mossyrock girls basketball team continued to punch up Tuesday, going to Cathlamet and besting Wahkiakum 46-28 with stifling defense and more than enough scoring to carry the day.

Hailey Brooks began her night scoring down low, and as soon as the Mules began focusing on keeping her contained in the post, she moved to the perimeter, nailing three 3-pointers en route to 17 points. She also logged eight rebounds.

Payton Torrey added 12 points on one side of the floor, and on the other held reigning C2BL Co-MVP Reigha Niemeyer to just five.

Caelyn Marshall scored 11 points, and Mckenna Torrey rounded out the visitors’ scoring with six.

It was a great team win tonight,” Mossy coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “We played great defense, talking through screens, and limiting Wahkiakum’s shot opportunities. Caelyn Marshall and Payton Torrey really led the way guarding their leading scorers and creating that momentum by forcing them into shots that weren't necessarily their first choice. The rest of the team continued with that energy on defense with great backside and help defense tonight.”

Mossyrock will head to Mount Vernon Christian next week for the MVC Holiday Tournament.
