Mossyrock Heads to Loser-Out Game After Loss to Valley

Posted

Mossyrock found itself in foul trouble all night as Willapa Valley lived at the free-throw line, getting 27 charity-stripe shots to five for Mossyrock, as Mossy suffered a 56-39 loss in the 1B District IV semifinals in Menlo on Thursday.

“I thought we played hard tonight,” Mossyrock coach Adam Deck said. “Some of our best efforts. We had some communication breakdowns, which led to some open shots for Valley, and you can’t allow them to shoot open jump shots. They are just too good of a team for that.”

Mossyrock trailed most of the game, getting down by six after one quarter and trailing 31-21 art the half. The Vikings never got any closer and Valley held on to close out the game and secure its spot in the district title game with Naselle.

Valley was led by Tyler Adkins’ game-high 19 points while Gavin Hampton added 12.

Mossyrock was led by Zack Munoz’ 13 points on 3 of 6 shooting from deep. Keegan Kolb chipped in 12 points.

“We have to rebound and communicate better and we’ll be fine on Saturday,” Deck said.

Mossyrock will face off against Oakville at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Montesano in a loser-out, winner-to-regionals matchup.
