Vikings Rebound With 58-0 Drubbing of Taholah

Seven Mossyrock players scored touchdowns and Mossyrock rebounded from last week’s loss by thumping Taholah, 58-0, on the road in 1B Pac-5 Conference action on Saturday.

One week removed from getting edged by rival Winlock, the Vikings had no trouble getting motivated for a road game on the Quinault Indian Reservation against the Chitwins.

Junior standout Keegan Kolb took the opening kickoff 70 yards to the house and the Vikings were not to be denied the rest of the day.

Mossyrock piled up 253 total rushing yards, led by Ben Cruz’ game-high 75 yards on four touches, which included a 50-yard touchdown romp. Zack Munoz tacked on two rushing scores with three carries for 53 yards and Hunter Isom punched in an 8-yard TD run, finishing with five carries for 42 yards.

The Vikings’ defense was equally impressive, holding the Chitwins to negative rushing yards with multiple sacks. Braeden Cornelius spearheaded the defense with three sacks, two hurries, two forced fumbles and a scoop and score in the third quarter to cap the scoring for the day.

Mossyrock coach Eric Ollikainen said it was a team effort, from top to bottom.

“A lot of young guys stepped up today,” Ollikainen said. “It’s a good group of kids and they know they have to win out for a chance at the playoffs. One week at a time.”

Mossyrock’s (3-4, 2-2 league) next hosts Toutle Lake at 7 p.m. Friday on homecoming night.
