Vikings Vanquish Timberwolves To Open Season

Mossyrock’s transition into basketball season could hardly have gone any smoother, as the Vikings put together a complete first game of the season in a 58-33 win over Morton-White Pass Tuesday night.

Payton Torrey and Caelyn Marshall, both volleyball standouts who seamlessly adapted to hoops in their first game, led the way for the Vikings (1-0), with Torrey notching a 25-point, 13-rebound, double-double, and Marshall scoring 14 points with seven steals. Torrey also dished out five assists.

“It’s always fun starting against a rival and getting a win,” Vikings coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “It was a big win for us tonight.”

Moorcroft also commended the play of senior Teaguen Weise, who played good defense and scored six points to go along with nine rebounds.

The Timberwolves (0-1) didn’t have a player score in double-digits, but were led in scoring by McKenzee Mays, who finished with eight points.

The Vikings outrebounded the T-Wolves, 44-28, and made eight of their 15 three-point attempts to get off to a hot start this season.

Mossyrock will take on Rainier next on Thursday.
