Volleyball: Loggers and Trojans Keep Rolling

Onalaska overcame a second-set collapse to recover and drop Morton-White Pass in four sets (25-26, 21-25, 25-8, 25-9) in a road match Wednesday in Randle.

The Loggers committed a series of unforced errors in the second set, called a timeout but it was too late and the Timberwolves tied the match up at 1-1.

“MWP is a scrappier team this year,” Onalaska coach Jenny Hamilton said. “They made it tough for us.”

But the Loggers recovered, highlighted by flawless serving and a dominant performance by senior Hannah James, who finished with a team-high 12 kills, served 23 for 23 with six aces and 17 digs.

“Hannah stepped up huge,” Hamilton said. “She was nailing the ball over and over.”

The Loggers were perfect from the service line, serving 100% as a team. Morgan Hamilton finished with nine kills, three block kills, 17 digs and was 17 for 17 serving with three aces.

Dakota Hamilton tallied a team-high 23 assists while adding four kills and two block kills.

“She did exactly what we needed her to do in the front row,” Jenny Hamilton said.

Libero Raelee Holmes added a team-high 18 digs and served 18 for 18. Jen Lipsee killed it on the net with one kill and five block kills. Desi Smith was praised by Hamilton for her excellent coverage on passing.

Onalaska (2-1) heads to Yakima to play in the Sundome Invitational on Saturday. MWP (1-2) travels to North Beach on Saturday.

Trojans Notch Second-Straight Sweep

Pe Ell completed back-to-back sweeps in consecutive nights after downing Mary M. Knight (25-15, 25-5, 25-18) at home on Wednesday.

“We had a really good game,” Pe Ell coach Holly Briggs said. “We’re a small team and we were able to play a lot of the JV team. Proud of them for being flexible and playing as a team. We had a chance to work on serving.”

Allie Engle led the Trojans with 21-for-21 serving with a game-high 12 aces. Setter Kennedy Kephart, playing in her first match of the year, finished with 33 sets and 11 assists.

As the Trojans improve to 2-0, Briggs said it’s a rewarding start to the season after the Trojans went winless until the opening game of districts last year. Now, five of her six starters are seniors and she’s seeing everything beginning to click for the team.

“This feels really good,” Briggs said. “They’ve worked really hard.”

Pe Ell travels to rival Willapa Valley on Monday.
