Wakefield Pitches a Gem, Tigers Take Down Wolves

Led by a strong effort in the circle from Hollynn Wakefield, the Centralia softball team defeated Black Hills in a 2A Evergreen Conference game Wednesday afternoon at Fort Borst Park, 7-1.

Wakefield pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on a home run by Zoey Theophilus, but otherwise shutting the door on the Wolves’ bats. Wakefield struck out 11, and gave up just four hits and two walks in the winning effort.

“She was lights out,” Tigers coach David Orr said. “She’s really good about mixing it up, she doesn't have a ton of off-speed but she hit her spots and kept them guessing.”

At the plate, the Tigers gave her more than enough run support, with Lauren Wasson and Jimena Luis finishing with three hits a piece, and Gracie Schofield going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Theophilus had the lone run of the day for the Wolves, and was intentionally walked in her other two at-bats. Sam West collected a multi-hit day, as well, going 2 for 3.

In the circle, Theophilus had three strikeouts, and allowed seven runs, with three earned, on 12 hits and two walks.

As the league season enters its closing stretch, Centralia is still in the mix for a district berth and will play a key matchup against Aberdeen back at Borst Park on Friday, while Black Hills returns to its home field against Shelton.
