Fifth Inning Spells Victory for Warriors Over Tigers

Rochester plated five runs in the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie and the Warriors earned a 9-6 win over Centralia at home in a 2A Evergreen Conference matchup on Friday.

Rochester was out-hit 10-8 and no Warrior batter collected more than one hit, but Layna Demers hit a two-run homer to spark a five-run fifth inning that gave Rochester the lead for good.

Demers finished 1 for 2 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks to lead the Warrriors’ offense. Lakota Escott also drove in two runs while going 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Escott pitched all seven innings, striking out six and allowing 10 hits and one walk with four earned runs.

Centralia’s offense was led by Ella Orr, who was 3 for 4 with two runs, while Jimena Luis went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Liza Hubbard drove in two runs.

Payton Baumel tossed 4.1 innings, striking out one and allowing five earned runs on eight hits and three walks.

Centralia (3-4) next hosts Tumwater on Thursday. Rochester hosts Aberdeen on April 11.
