Warriors Come Back in 7th to Upend Wolves

The Black Hills baseball team had its first win of the season in its sights Friday, but couldn’t hold onto a late lead at home, falling to Rochester 7-5 in a 2A EvCo matchup.

The Wolves led 5-4 after six innings of play, with Truman Wimsett coming out for his third inning of work in relief, having retired six straight batters. But Rochester put Mason Ubias on second on an error to lead off the seventh and got him to third on a wild pitch, and Tate Quarnstrom drew a walk to put Black Hills in immediate danger.

An error in the outfield let Ubias score and put two in scoring position, and over the course of the next two batters, the Warriors brought both home on wild pitches.

The rally cost Black Hills three runs and the lead, without Rochester registering a hit. The Warriors only finished with three knocks as a lineup, but brought seven runs home with the help of six Black Hills errors and seven free passes.

Hyde Parrish went six innings for Rochester in the start with ace Braden Hartley not in the lineup, striking out nine and giving up five runs on nine hits. Henry Gramelspacher came in to pitch a clean seventh, and ended up earning the win for the Warriors.

Brayden Golder allowed three runs (one earned) in three innings to start for the Wolves, and Joey Floyd surrendered on unearned run in the fourth. Wimsett came in to start the fifth; he took the loss despite not allowing a hit or an earned run.

Rochester and Black Hills were set to make the return trip to Heinz-Rotter Field on Saturday.
