The Rochester girls basketball team jumped the gun on the winter tournament season, going across the southern border and opening play at the tournament hosted by Seaside (Ore.) with a 42-28 win over Cottage Grove (Ore.).

“Our team play is starting to click and we are building confidence in one another both offensively but especially defensively,” Rochester coach Davina Serdahl said.

Roisin Stull filled up the box score with a team-high 12 points, five steals, and four rebounds. Layna Demers and Hailey Angwood both came in with nine points, the latter leading Rochester on the glass with 10 rebounds. Delany Winter had eight points and a team-leading seven assists.

Rochester held Cottage Grove to six points in both of the first two quarters, and just two in the fourth to put things away.

The Warriors (3-4, 1-2 2A EvCo) will take on another side from Oregon — either Madras or Dallas — Friday afternoon.
