Warriors Hammer Wolves Early

The Rochester baseball team scored all of the runs it would need before Black Hills could record the second out of the first inning Friday, and the Warriors went on to coast to a 17-6 win in five to cap the series sweep.

After Black Hills put up a run in the top of the first, Rochester did its guests 10 better in the bottom half of the frame, with an 11-spot. The Warriors sent 14 batters to the plate, racking up six hits — including three doubles — and drawing five free passes.

The Warriors followed the first up with back-to-back three-run innings in the second and the third. For its part, the Warriors pushed runs across in four of their five frames at the plate, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Hayden Pietras and Hyde Parrish combined to go 6 for 7 at the plate with two doubles and nine runs driven in. Mason Ubias added a 2-for-4 line with a walk, a double, and three runs scored, while Kole Smith was 2 for 3, scored two runs, and drove two more in.

Braden Hartley struck out five in three innings of work on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and a walk. Bradden Larue had the best outing on the mound for the Wolves, going 1 ⅓ innings and giving up just a hit and a free pass.

Rochester is slated to open a league series against Tumwater on Tuesday, while Black Hills will face Aberdeen.
