All bad things come to an end. For Rochester girls soccer, a 10-match losing skid came to a screeching halt as the Warriors nabbed their first victory of the season in a 2-1 win over visiting Aberdeen in 2A Evergreen Conference action on Tuesday.

Amerika Jones knocked in both goals for the Warriors as Rochester stunned an Aberdeen squad that entered the match with a 6-3 overall record. The Bobcats had already beaten the Warriors, 3-1, earlier this season.

“I felt going in we might have a chance to do well,” Rochester coach Ken Matthews said. “At yesterday’s practice, everyone was doing everything at a high tempo. We took that and played with intensity for longer stretches tonight. We’ll work to keep our momentum going next week.”

Matthews named the entire team as the Women of the Match.

Rochester improves to 1-10 overall and 1-7 in league, and travels to Tumwater on Tuesday.
