In maybe its most complete performance to date this season, the Rochester boys soccer team finally found the back of the net, and in a flurry, beating Shelton at home, 4-0, to pick up its first league win of the new year.
“It’s a weight lifted off our shoulders, for sure,” Warriors coach Matt Ashton said. “But we have to take it one game at a time now and get focused for the rest of our games.”
Erik Vasquez-Valentine going the scoring started in the 11th minute on a penalty kick, and the Warriors only rolled from there, with Gabe Stuard scoring in the 32nd minute off an assist from Alexis Castillo-Corona, and Stewart returning the favor for Castillo-Corona later for a goal in the 58th.
The Warriors last goal came in the 75th minute, a Ivoc Castillo goal off an assist from Castillo-Corona.
“That part is finally coming around, we’re starting to finish our shots and get more goals,” Ashton said.
The Warriors (2-6, 1-4 2A EvCo) will look to keep the momentum rolling against Centralia on Tuesday night.
