Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Increases Coho Catch Limit on  Cowlitz River

Posted

As of Oct. 15, the daily catch limit for hatchery adult coho salmon has been increased to six fish and anglers are allowed to retain up to four adults instead of three, according to a news release from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

Anglers are still asked to release all other salmon besides hatchery coho and minimum size.

The limit increase will last until Dec. 31 and is in effect on the Cowlitz River from the river’s mouth to the fishing boundary signs beneath the Barrier Dam.

WDFW explained this change was being made because the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery is projected to exceed broodstock collection goals for hatchery programs.

All other rules in the 2022-2023 sport fishing rules pamphlet remain in effect. The pamphlet can be viewed online at  https://www.eregulations.com/assets/docs/guides/22WAFW.pdf.
