Washington’s Mask Requirements for Health Care, Other Facilities to Lift in April

The Washington Department of Health (DOH) has announced statewide mask requirements for health care, long-term care and correctional facilities will be lifted on April 3.

According to Lewis County Health Officer Dr. Joe Wiley, each of the offices previously required to enforce mask wearing for staff and customers will be able to make the call on their own discretion going forward.

“If any individual desires to mask in public, for whatever reason, they may exercise their freedom to do so,” Wiley said in a news release from the county. “One should consider masking in public if they have a respiratory illness and are unable to remain isolated.”

The county’s release states DOH has reported declining case totals of COVID-19, RSV and influenza, along with falling rates of hospitalizations due to the diseases.

The state maintains that employees and contractors may choose to use facemasks or other personal protective equipment while working.
