After triumphing past Clark College in the first game on Friday, the Centralia College softball team couldn’t maintain the momentum and split with the Penguins then were swept by Clackamas at home on Saturday.
Now at 12-25 overall and 8-18 in the NWAC, the Trailblazers have four games left in the regular season, a mid-week doubleheader at Grays Harbor before hosting Lower Columbia on Friday for sophomore night.
In their only victory, they plated multiple runs in three of the first six innings and broke the game open with a five-run seventh that was started by a three home run-run by Graci Bonney-Spradlin. The No. 8 hitter in the CC lineup drove in five runs and scored three times.
Ava Hernandez recorded six strikeouts in the victory while Chase White and Sara Haury each notched two hits, including a double.
Clark responded with a 7-5 victory in the nightcap. Centralia jumped out to a 5-3 advantage, then the Penguins tied the game in the fourth, took the lead in the fifth and grabbed an insurance tally in the sixth.
Rachel Gray launched a go-ahead two-run homer run in the third for the Trailblazers while Jimena Luis drove in three runs.
Saturday ended with a 18-7, 13-8 sweep for Clackamas at Bob Peters Field. The Cougars started fast out of the gates in Game 1 with six runs in the first and five more over the next two innings. They added six more in the fourth, fueled by 10 hits and 19 walks.
Centralia attempted a rally with five in the fourth, but the gap was too much to overcome. Four different players recorded a double for the Trailblazers.
Game 2 was on the verge of a rout with Centralia plating seven in the second to take an 8-0 lead. Clackamas responded with six runs in the third and four in the fourth to secure the lead for good. The Trailblazers were paced by Luis and Natalie Loose each going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
