Less than six weeks after placing third in his first collegiate decathlon, W.F. West alum Lucas Hoff won the 2025 NWAC Men’s Decathlon Title with 6,533 points at the NWAC Multi-Events Championships on Monday and Tuesday in Eugene, Oregon.

As a result, he also earned All-American Status.

Hoff, who competes for Lane Community College, set a personal record in all but one event, including a new best of 16 feet in the pole vault.

On Day 1, Hoff ran the 100-meter dash in 11.62 seconds and the 400-meter run in 51.60 seconds. He cleared the bar in the high jump at 1.94 meters (6 feet, 4.24 inches), leaped 6.49 meters (21 feet, 3.5 inches) in the long jump, and he tossed the shot put 10.59 meters (34 feet, 9 inches).

He entered Day 2 in second place, 161 points behind the leader.

Hoff began the second day by clearing the 110-meter hurdles in 16.73 seconds, but struggled in the discus. After throwing the discus 23.41 meters (76 feet, 9 inches), he fell to seventh place.

His best events were yet to come, though.

He was the only pole vaulter to clear the bar at just over 14 feet, and he eventually cleared the bar at 16 feet, 0.75 inches on his first attempt at that height.

It was such a strong performance that he secured the championship with two wins to go.

“The adrenaline helps,” Hoff said in an interview with NWAC Sports after the meet. “I knew it was there. I just let my body take over.”

After the pole vault, Hoff threw the javelin 58.04 meters (190 feet, 5 inches) and ran the 1,500-meter in 5:07.08.

“It gives me confidence,” Hoff said later in the same interview. “I’ve put in a lot of work, and now it’s showing.”
