Hayden Steele, a student from W.F. West High School, served as a page in the state House of Representatives in Olympia the week of Jan. 8-12.
He was sponsored by 15th District Rep. Bruce Chandler, R-Granger.
"The page program is an excellent way for students from around the state to learn how our state government operates," Chandler said. "I am grateful for Hayden's work during his week in Olympia. I hope he enjoyed his time at the Capitol and will share his experience with other students."
Steele’s parents are Nicholas and Amber Steele. His interests include reading, cooking and photography.
During his service in the Legislature, Hayden delivered messages and documents to legislators during committee meetings, to their offices, and in the House chamber. He attended page school and also participated in a mock committee hearing.
Each year students from around the state apply to become a page. Applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14 and 16. Additionally, pages are required to obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages are paid $65 a day and can also earn up to 20 hours of community service.
Applicants who need financial assistance for the expense of traveling and staying in Olympia may also apply for the Gina Grant Bull Memorial Legislative Page Scholarship, which helps to offset expenses.
