Ignited by three more wins on the boys side and complete domination for the girls, the Bearcats came away with both team victories over the Tigers by scores of 77-67 (boys) and 99.33-36.67 (girls) on Wednesday night in Chehalis.
The main reason behind the 10-point margin on the boys side was due to the amount of wins. W.F. West won 10 events compared to Centralia’s seven. A core four of Hayden Niemi, Walker Sampson, Maddox Sampson and Kade Mohoric had their fingerprints all over the meet.
They combined to claim the 1,600-meter relay in 3 minutes, 45.54 seconds remaining in regulation . Both the Sampson’s and Mohoric were on the two winning relays with Mohoric also leaping over 18 feet to claim the long jump. Maddox secured the 110 hurdles and Walker picked up first in the 100 dash.
For Centralia, Jacoby Corwin (triple jump and high jump) plus Ethan Weiher (800 and 1,600 runs) were the lone multiple event winners.
On the girls side, W.F. West dominated with 13 of the 17 races won. Emily Mallonee and Lauren Kelley each came away with four wins, the latter was a part of all three relays and won the long jump while the former swept the hurdles and was on two victorious quartets.
Trinity Gist and Ashlen Gruginski won three events while KD Obtinario (shot put and discus) and Amanda Bennett (javelin and pole vault) for the Bearcats.
Centralia’s Anna Jones swept the open 200 and 400 while Desiray Crockett (100) and Ryleigh Butler (high jump).
