The W.F. West baseball team clinched its season series against Shelton on Tuesday, defeating the Highclimbers 8-1 in Shelton.

The game was scoreless through two innings before Deacon Meller kickstarted a four-run third with an RBI double.

Meller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another run in the fourth, and an Alex Stafford sacrifice fly and Hudson McCallum RBI single made it 7-0 in the top of the fifth.

Shelton got on the board in the bottom half of that frame, but Weston Potter scored on a groundout in the seventh to push the lead back to seven.

Meller finished with two hits and two RBIs, while McCallum and Potter also had two hits apiece. Stafford, McCallum, and Hiroto Smaciarz combined to drive in the other four W.F. West runs.

Connor Coleman pitched the first six innings, allowing just one hit and an unearned run while striking out six and walking just two. Grady Westlund pitched the seventh.

W.F. West (14-2, 9-1 2A EvCo) will look to sweep Shelton on Wednesday, when the two teams meet for their third and final regular-season meeting.
