TUMWATER — W.F. West senior Mari Ceesay came away with a win in her first stop of the postseason Tuesday, wrapping up play at the 2A sub-district championships with a league singles title.

The senior downed Shelton’s Hannah Pratt 6-4, 6-2 in the final match.

“The big thing that I’m trying to get from Mari is more consistency,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “The first set she was making some unforced errors, but she cleaned it up in the second set.”

Tumwater’s Kendall Gjurasic took third in the tournament, upsetting teammate Olivia Kee 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 before going on to beat Centralia’s Olivia Norris 6-2, 6-3.

Ceesay, Pratt, and Gjurasic thus take the league’s top three seeds into the 2A District tournament next week at Steamboat Tennis Club in Olympia, while Norris will play the No. 5 player out of the 2A GSHL in a pigtail match to get into the tournament proper.

Ceesay led a team effort that earned W.F. West its third team league title in a row.

On the doubles side, Black Hills’ Stella Moore and Chloe Witcraft took down W.F. West’s Laura Yip and Katelyn Wood, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 to take the doubles title. Behind Wood and Yip, Ema Weerasinghe and Lillian Hueffed took down Centralia’s Maya Lackie and Maddy Breckel 6-1, 6-3, then finished third with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win over Tumwater’s Emily Meek and Brook Borovec.
