"Horns and Hooks,” a hunting and fishing reality television show that premiered earlier this year, has been picked up for another season, according to Chehalis native Rex Peterson, one of its creators.
“Things are totally great,” Peterson said last Friday. “We finished up in October and we start up again in April.”
He found out last month that his show would be renewed.
Peterson, along with hunting buddy Jesse Kollman, two years ago started a magazine of the same name.
In the coming months they will promote both the show and the magazine at sportsmen conventions throughout the Pacific Northwest.
“We’re actually taking over the Grays Harbor Sportsmen show March 8-9,” Peterson said. “I’m working on some really big celebrities.”
It’s a happy turn for what started as bold investments.
Filmed on a Sony MX5D and edited with Final Cut Pro, the $5,000 “Horns and Hooks” pilot episode was financed entirely by its creators.
They also paid for the next 12 episodes.
"It's a huge risk," Peterson said at the time. "Jesse and I are just trying to fulfill our dreams of living a lifestyle of hunting and fishing."
Now, they also are trying to make that dream come true for others.
“We’ve been doing some Wounded Warrior fishing trips, stuff with kids, disabled kids. When we can, we put that stuff on TV,” Peterson said. “We’re trying to give back a little and help people who might not otherwise be able to do this.”
An outdoorsman born and raised in Chehalis, Peterson ventured on his first hunting expedition when he was 2 years old. Since then, he has traveled the country in pursuit of adventure.
"I'm just consumed with hunting," Peterson, a 1995 graduate of W.F. West, said earlier this year. "Seeing the animals, being part of their world, that's No. 1. I'm not really a spiritual person, but if I was in any sort of religion, it would be nature."
