Ignited by 20 rebounds from forward Ellie Johnson, the Black Hills High School girls basketball team pulled down 47 boards and led much of the night in a 55-27 verdict over Elma on Tuesday night.
Fourteen of the 20 boards from Johnson were on the defensive side. Black Hills (1-0) pulled down 18 offensive rebounds to combat a 2-for-15 night from beyond the arc and 21-for-56 shooting night.
Tyler Venable poured in a game-high 24 points while Kiley McMahon added 15. The Wolves broke away from Elma with a 20-point outburst in the second stanza and never let the Eagles reach double digits in any quarter.
Black Hills will host Castle Rock on Friday night in another contest against a 1A school.
