Wolves Stave Off Late Bearcat Comeback on Senior Night

Posted

Led by four double figure scorers, the Black Hills boys basketball team got out ahead and held off a late W.F. West rally in a 67-65 win Thursday night.

The Wolves built up a double digit lead in the third quarter, thanks in part to strong play from a quartet of Wolves: Luke Ellison (19 points), Johnnie Stallings (15 points), Keagan Rongen (11 points), and Andre Byoune (10 points), but then the Bearcats made their move.

Though W.F. West managed to outscore the Wolves, 21-12 in the final frame, the Wolves did just enough to win on senior night.

The Bearcats were led by Dirk Plakinger’s 22 points, with Seth Hoff adding 20, and three shots from deep in the final quarter. Soren Dalan (14 points) and Evan Tornow (5 points) were the other Bearcats to score Thursday.

Black Hills’ regular season is over, and can finish no lower than third in league. If the Bearcats beat Rochester for senior night, they will hold on to the second seed in the EvCo, but if they slip up, it could mean the Wolves usurping them.
