The Black Hills boys soccer team earned its third straight league win Tuesday, downing Rochester 5-3 in 2A EvCo action.

Ethan Perkins came away with a brace to lead the Wolves, and also had an assist. Brady Mitchell, Bereket Lester, and Shane Braz rounded out the scoring for Black Hills; Mitchell and Braz also had assists, and Jace Brookerson and Luke Grunenfelder added helpers of their own.

Rochester started the scoring early with a goal in the ninth minute from Jaime Rodriguez Meraz. That kicked off a back-and-forth span, with the two teams combining for six goals in just over 30 minutes. Rodriguez Meraz added another goal before the break, but the Wolves went into halftime up 4-2.

“The game was really physical, with many fouls being called,” Rochester coach Matt Ashton said. “We played tough, but have some work to do on our defensive line, as BH was able to get the ball split between our defenders.”

After the fireworks of the first half, the second settled down early. Rochester drew a goal back off the foot of Gabriel Fernandez Sales in the 71st minute, but Black Hills never surrendered the lead, and pushed it back out to two in the dying minutes of the match.

Black Hills is set to face Tumwater in a rivalry matchup Thursday; the T-Birds eked out a 1-0 win in their first Pioneer Bowl matchup earlier this season. Rochester will host Centralia on Friday.
