A 47-year-old man was arrested last week on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend of six months, according to Olympia police.
About 3 a.m. Feb. 23, police were dispatched to an apartment in the 2300 block of Ninth Avenue Southwest after neighbors called 911 to report a disturbance. An argument between a boyfriend and a girlfriend that erupted into violence, and the man was intoxicated, Police Lt. Paul Lower said.
During the argument, police say the woman was stabbed in the right leg with meat-cutting scissors and hit in the head with a pole-like object. She had an injury on her elbow that appeared to be a burn, although police were not sure what caused it, Lower said.
After the initial attack, the woman locked herself in the bathroom. When things appeared to have calmed down, she emerged from the bathroom to try to retrieve her phone, but the man confronted her again and pulled her hair, grabbed her throat and squeezed her neck, Lower said.
The woman again retreated to the bathroom before police arrived.
The man was booked on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault domestic violence, including strangulation, according to jail records.
