WSDOT: Highways Over White Pass and Snoqualmie Pass Could Stay Closed Through Saturday

Posted

Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass and Highway 12 over White Pass will remain closed through at least Saturday, Jan. 8, because of dangerous weather conditions.

Interstate 90 is closed between North Bend at milepost 34 and Ellensburg at milepost 106, according to a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

"Currently, conditions are too dangerous for crews to safely make an assessment and more inclement weather is in the forecast for the next 24 hours," the department said in an announcement.

US 12 over White Pass remains closed between Packwood at milepost 135 and Oak Creek at milepost 183. Local traffic from the eastside is allowed up to the Lower Tieton Road at milepost 168.

Other Cascade passes closed Thursday:

—Stevens Pass on U.S. 2 was closed due to heavy snow.

—Snow and ice closed Blewett Pass on U.S. 97.

The road through the Yakima River Canyon, State Route 821 between Selah and Ellensburg, also is closed until further notice. Only local traffic is allowed through the closure points, WSDOT said.
