The Washington State Department of Transportation opened two state route passes through Mount Rainier National Park on Friday.

State Route 410’s Chinook Pass and state Route 123’s Cayuse Pass are now open for the season, according to a Friday WSDOT news release. The openings come just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

According to the release, Chinook Pass is now open between Crystal Mountain Boulevard and Morse Creek, and Cayuse pass takes visitors between Stevens Canyon Road and the SR 410 junction. The National Park Service is currently working to repair sections of SR 123 every day through October, which will add about 30 minutes of travel time, according to the release.

Visiting popular Mount Rainier entrance requires a reservation this summer

“As a reminder, all commercial vehicles are prohibited from traveling through Mount Rainier National Park which includes sections of SR 123 and SR 410,” the WSDOT release said.

The release said that Mount Rainier National Park’s Longmire and Paradise areas are open, as well as Stevens Canyon Road, although the Patriarchs trail is still closed.

The Mount Rainier National Park website provides further road access updates, according to the release.
