Sirens: 'Sorry, but I can’t afford to fix it,' writes hit-and-run suspect; two men dressed in camo and carrying rifles; knife-wielding child talked to by officer

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Suspicious circumstances

• A possible drug deal was reported in the 300 block of Northwest North Street just after 12:50 p.m. on April 29.

• A 12-year-old boy was reportedly swinging a kitchen knife around in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just before 7:15 p.m. on April 29. An officer spoke with the boy, who “advised it was a small throwing knife, which he put away.” The officer advised the child’s mother that they used the incident as a teaching moment.

• Three men, one of whom was “in a creepy Halloween mask” and another who was “waving a machete,” were reported at the intersection of Northwest Prindle Street and Northwest Front Street just after 7:50 p.m. on April 30.

 

Criminal trespass

• A subject was arrested for trespassing in the 600 block of West Main Street just after 1:15 p.m. on April 29.

• The driver of a vehicle that was parked on private property in the 100 block of Southeast Summit Road just after 4:50 p.m. on April 30 was moved along.

 

Green Hill School referrals

• Green Hill School, located in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street, notified the Chehalis Police Department that it had four referrals on unlawful possession charges for officers to pick up at 4:20 p.m. on April 30.

• A marijuana violation case from Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street was referred to the Chehalis Police Department at approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 30.

• A second-degree assault case from Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street was referred to the Chehalis Police Department at approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 30.

 

Yard Birds complaint

• Just after 7:10 p.m. on April 30, a citizen called to complain that “she’s upset that Yard Birds is dumping all their crap into the parking lot” in the 2100 block of North National Avenue. She reported that the Yard Birds owner will “be doing this for the next two days and it’s going to be a huge mess.”

 

Harassment

• A citizen reported someone was harassing a woman in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue at 9:55 p.m. on April 30.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 300 block of Southeast Park Hill Drive just after 10:50 p.m. on April 30. Someone reportedly left a note reading “sorry, but I can’t afford to fix it” on the car that was hit.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• Two homeless people were trespassed from private property in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. on April 29.

• A homeless Chehalis man was trespassed from a business in the 1200 block of Borthwick Street at 8:50 a.m. on April 29 after employees reported they “believed (he) was doing drugs.” Responding officers “did not see the man doing drugs.”

• A disorderly man who was yelling at customers in the lobby of a business in the 1100 block of Mellen Street was trespassed from the business at 9:35 a.m. on April 29.

• A disorderly homeless man from Packwood was trespassed from a business in the 400 block of West Main Street just before 12:55 p.m. on April 29.

• A disorderly woman reportedly attempted to enter a residential trailer in the 1200 block of Alder Street just before 1:35 p.m. on April 29. Officers were unable to locate her.

• A disorderly male was reportedly yelling and doing “karate moves” on private property in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue just before 2:40 p.m. on April 29.  An officer arrived on scene and contacted the homeless Packwood man, who “was smoking marijuana and appeared to be under the influence of other drugs.” Department of Corrections personnel arrived on scene at the request of the officer, but were advised that the male was not violating his conditions of release. The male was trespassed from the property.

• An unidentified homeless man was reportedly camping in a shed on a residential property in the 1600 block of Military Road at approximately 3:25 p.m. on April 29. An officer located bedding inside the shed, but no one was present. The officer helped the resident secure their shed.

• People were reportedly camping in motorhomes on city property in the 900 block of B Street just after 5:25 p.m. on April 29. Officers contacted one man, gave him local resource information and advised him of the Centralia municipal code prohibiting camping on city property.

• A homeless Packwood man was trespassed from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 9:35 p.m. on April 29.

• A homeless Centralia resident who was “making employees feel uncomfortable” at a business in the 200 block of West Reynolds Avenue was trespassed from the business just after 8:35 a.m. on April 30.

 



Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Centralia College Boulevard and South Rock Street just after 11:30 a.m. on April 29.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of South Gold Street just before 2:05 p.m. on April 29.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 8:35 a.m. on April 30.

 

Malicious mischief

• At approximately 11:35 a.m. on April 29, there was a report that an unknown suspect shattered the glass door to a business in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Two men “dressed in camo and carrying rifles” were reportedly walking in the 100 block of South Silver Street toward Centralia College just before 3:05 p.m. on April 29. Officers contacted the men and found they were carrying BB guns. “The officers spoke to the males (about) safety concerns regarding their conduct,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Just after 1:30 a.m. on May 1, a citizen reported unidentified subjects were throwing grocery items in the citizen’s front yard in the 100 block of East Roanoke Street. When officers arrived, they learned the citizen was intoxicated and “had thrown his own grocery items, and … no other persons were present.”

 

Disorderly conduct

• A homeless Winlock man was reportedly walking on the sidewalk and the street at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 while “yelling at people and begging for money” just before 3:25 p.m. on April 29. Officers warned the man for disorderly conduct.

• A disorderly juvenile was reported at Centralia Middle School in the 900 block of Johnson Road at approximately 11:50 a.m. on April 30. The juvenile was released to their parent.

• A disorderly woman was reported in the 900 block of Ellsbury Street at 2:15 p.m. on April 30. She left the scene before officers arrived.

 

Lost property

• Just after 8:05 a.m. on April 30, an individual from out of the area reported that while in Centralia, her Apple AirPods went missing and she was able to ping their location in the 1200 block of Alder Street. Officers contacted a homeless man in the area, who “confirmed that he had the AirPods and said he found them in the trash.” The AirPods were retrieved and returned to the owner.

 

Theft

• A 35-year-old Centralia man was cited for shoplifting in the 300 block of West Reynolds Avenue at 8:20 a.m. on April 30.

 

Dispute

• A verbal domestic dispute involving “an intoxicated family member who refused to leave the property” was reported in the 100 block of Virginia Drive at approximately 6:35 p.m. on April 30. “Officers de-escalated the dispute and the intoxicated male agreed to leave,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 29 illness-related calls, eight injury-related calls, four fire-related calls, 16 non-emergency service calls, two vehicle accidents, two Lifeline medical alerts, one overdose, one report of a dead body, and two other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 132 inmates, including 118 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 97 were reported male and 21 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 12 inmates, including seven booked by the Centralia Police Department, three booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Lummi Nation and one booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement.
