A 13-year-old died from an apparent narcotics overdose in a Spanaway home where he was staying Friday morning, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Central Pierce Fire paramedics responded to a report of a boy not breathing just after 8 a.m. Friday. They were unable to revive the teen and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Deputies were called to assist for a death investigation because of the young age of the teen," the Sheriff's Department said on Facebook. "Deputies could see narcotic paraphernalia near the teen and immediately called for detectives and forensic investigators."

The Sheriff's Department said at the time of his death, the teen was staying with his brothers at a relative's home.

Detectives applied for a search warrant. An adult male roommate of the homeowner was arrested on a previous warrant, the Sheriff's Department said.

"At this time it is believed the teen died from an overdose of illegal narcotics," the Sheriff's Department said.
