A 14-year-old Vancouver high school student was attacked while walking to school on Monday in a possible kidnapping attempt, sheriff’s officials said.
The 14-year-old girl was at Northeast 76th Street and 112nd Avenue around 8:15 a.m. when a man wearing a face mask emerged from behind some bushes, grabbed at her and tried to put a piece of fabric over her face, Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The girl, who was walking to Heritage High School, was able to break free from her attacker and ran to the school several blocks away. Police said she appeared to be uninjured after the attack.
Sheriff’s officials describe the suspect as about 5-foot-9 and slender, with light brown skin and black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing oval-shaped glasses, a black hoodie over a black T-shirt and black cargo pants.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack and saw someone matching the suspect’s description to contact Det. Lawrence Zapata at lawrence.zapata@clark.wa.gov.
