15-year-old Shelton teen injured in motorcycle crash in Grays Harbor County

A 15-year-old Shelton teen was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Tuesday after he lost control of a motorcycle on state Route 8 in eastern Grays Harbor County.

At 11:53 a.m., the teen was eastbound on SR 8 when attempted to pass another vehicle. When he failed to navigate the curve, he then struck a cable barrier, totaling the motorcycle.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said that the teen will likely face infractions for driving without a license and for whatever the trooper on scene determines as the cause of the crash. The 15-year-old is too young to have a driver’s license in Washington, and though drivers can receive learner’s permits at his age, Weatherwax said there is no record of this teen having one of those, either.

The green Kawasaki motorcycle the teen drove is registered to his parents, she said. She said the teen appeared to have been “updating his mother” when he got into the accident.

It is unclear if his parents gave him permission to use the motorcycle.

He suffered serious injuries to his arm, so was transported to Harborview.
