2B Softball: Pe Ell Takes Two From Adna

Posted

ADNA — The first game was every bit as tight as you’d expect from a rematch of the last three State 2B championship games, but the nightcap swayed a bit more in Pe Ell’s favor.

The Trojans picked up a pair of 3-2, 10-4 wins over rival Adna here Thursday in Central 2B League softball action to take over sole possession of second place in the C2BL standings.

Jordan Sandrini led off Game 1 with a homer for Adna, but Pe Ell pitcher Amanda Woods allowed just one hit — to Alexa Bond — the rest of the way and struck out 13.

Woods added three hits of her own, and the Trojans turned a double from Tabatha Skeen and a Pirate error into the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

“I was disappointed in our hitting, because we’ve hit Amanda before,” Pirate coach Mike Raschke said. “But overall, the score, and keeping them from scoring, I was pleased with them for that.”

Adna pitcher Alexis Moerke allowed eight hits, but three errors by Adna helped the Trojans in the opener.

“It’s getting close to districts, and we’re going to have to button down our errors,” Raschke added. “Pe Ell’s too good of a team to give up three errors to and not hit the ball.”

Ashley Shepherd had two hits for the Trojans in the first game.

Pe Ell jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning, and led 9-2 after three frames.

Woods had two hits with a homer in the second game, while Kayla Capps homered, Shepherd had three hits, Taylor Ratkie had a pair of doubles and Kayla Hoke had two hits for Pe Ell.

Sandrini had two hits, and Krysta Anderson and Rachel Diaz DeLeon each hit a triple for the Pirates.

“The girls never gave up, and that’s what we like,” Raschke said. “They held their composure. They could have easily been down 6-0 and thrown in the towel.”

Adna (8-5, 6-4 league) is at Mossyrock on Thursday, while Pe Ell (9-2, 8-2 league) will host Morton-White Pass the same day.
