Pe Ell's Amanda Woods repeated as the Central 2B League's Most Valuable Player this season — and, considering the votes are cast prior to the postseason, showed the league's coaches know what they're doing.
The Trojan senior hit .655 on the season and went 18-3 on the mound with 116 strikeouts and a 2.06 earned-run average, but most importantly led Pe Ell to its fourth straight state championship softball game, and second State 2B title in three years.
Woods, who plans to play at George Fox University next year, also hit nine home runs this season — as did teammate Kayla Capps, who was named to the All-League first-team. Capps, a sophomore infielder, hit .439 on the season with a .970 slugging percentage and a .519 on-base average.
Pe Ell sophomore Kayla Hoke, also an infielder, hit .559 with a .746 slugging percentage, and was also tabbed as a first-teamer.
Napavine, which went undefeated during C2BL play, landed three players on the first team in Alexa Peters, Mackenzie Olson and Demi Sahlinger.
Peters hit .427 with 11 doubles, three home runs and a whopping 57 RBIs for the Tigers, without registering a single strikeout at the plate, and posted a 12-3 record as a pitcher with 74 strikeouts and a 2.94 ERA.
Olson hit .525 with 14 doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs, with a .985 slugging percentage. In the circle, she went 10-2 with a 2.36 ERA. Sahlinger, the Tigers' third-baseman, hit .475, drove in 28 runs, stole 15 bases and scored 42 runs.
Adna, which finished third in the regular season, took second at the District IV tournament and topped Napavine in the third/fourth place game at state, also placed three players — Jordan Sandrini, Emma Brattain and Taylor Ferrier — on the All-League first team.
Senior shortstop Sandrini, who has signed on to play at Siena next season, hit .543 for the Pirates.
"She's going to be a tough one to replace," Adna coach Mike Raschke said. "She's a great captain and a role model."
Brattain hit .391 with 18 RBIs and five doubles in her third year as the Pirates' starting catcher. Ferrier hit .382 and, according to Raschke, covered a lot of ground at center field for the Pirates.
Morton-White Pass' Ashley Kelly, who played shortstop for the Timberwolves, was also a first-team pick. The sophomore hit .528 on the year, with 20 RBIs and a pair of home runs.
Toutle Lake catcher Joelle Iverson and pitcher Paige Deffenbaugh were also voted to the first team, and first-year Napavine coach Kurt Olson was the league's Coach of the Year.
Adna pitcher Alexis Moerke and infielder Alexa Bond were both second-team selections, as was Mossyrock shortstop Autumn Moorcroft and Morton-White Pass infielder Christin Nilius and catcher Darian Atkinson.
Napavine designated player Brittany Mitchell (.371 average, 33 RBIs), catcher Sam May (.370 average, 31 RBIs) and second baseman Teryn Pannette (.442 average, 16 stolen bases) were also voted to the second team, along with Wahkiakum catcher Sam Boyce.
