NAPAVINE — Toledo senior Stacie Spahr finished with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Indians held off a second-half rally by Napavine for a 56-48 victory Monday on the Tigers’ senior night.
“Napavine plays hard and they’re well-coached,” Toledo coach Brian Layton said. “We separated in the third quarter, they came back and we couldn’t quite put them away. Credit to Napavine.”
Marina Smith added 18 points and six assists for the Indians, while Emma Cline-Maier had 12 points and Greenlee Clark finished with nine rebounds and sis assists.”
The Tigers were fueled by Natalya Marcial, who led all scorers with 23 points. Senior Vannie Fagerness hit some big 3s to finish with 11 points.
Fagerness and Rae Sisson, the two Tiger seniors, were honored before the game.
“I was really proud of our kids to battle back in the fourth quarter,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “Our two special seniors have given our program the stability we needed, as well as helping change our culture. I was to thank Rae and Vannie for their great leadership the last few years.”
Napavine (7-4, 6-3 league) travels to Winlock Tuesday for its regular-season finale.
Toledo (7-2, 6-2 league) heads to Toutle Lake Tuesday for its final regular-season game.
Pe Ell used a 16-3 run in the second quarter to fly past visiting Columbia Adventist, 51-37, on senior night Monday in a 1B Columbia Valley League game.
Sophomore Charlie Carper scored a game-high 22 points, senior Annika Mason added 17 points and sophomore Kali Cox chipped in 10, including a couple big 3-pointers.
Locked in an 11-11 tie after one quarter, the Trojans reeled off a 16-3 run to end the first half to take a 27-14 lead at the break and pull away for the Kodiaks for good.
“We took over in the second quarter, setting screens and moving inside,” Pe Ell coach Danny Cox said. “We played tougher defense. That was the turning point.”
It was the regular-season finale for the Trojans (4-7), who will take the No. 4 seed into districts where they will face 1B Coastal League champion Taholah in the opening round on Thursday.
